[update] Somewhat Weird…

oooeeeoooeeeEEEooo (X-Files Theme Song)

Every time I wake up, its almost as if there are so many thoughts in my head, so many things to think of, that its just utter chaos in my brain. I handle this by going into monologue mode. Yes, I talk to myself. In my head. Just a few seconds after I wake up. It calms my brain. This morning it went pretty much like this when I got into the loo:

I think, you usually aim lower than that…
Really? No I don't.
You do… I should know… I'm telling you–
Oh shuddup, I'm trying to– gahhawwfug.
Hah! Stupid!
You realize that makes you stupid too right? *smirks*
…heyyy WAITAMINUTE!!!

So this goes on for a few minutes, while the chaos in the background of my mind fizzles out. And I swear, every morning there's always a different song playing in my head, (repeats are rare) sounding like music in an airport, or a shopping mall, if you will.
This morning it was Ville Vallo and Natalia Avelon's version of Lee Hazlewood's "Summer Wine". But, it was just the first verse of the whole song;

Strawberries, cherries, and an angel's kiss in spring,
My summer wine is really made from all these things…

Just that, in an endless loop, that oddly enough sounds like the whole song itself, in my post-REM brain of course. Weird innit?

In all, this is a surreal ritual that I go through in the early minutes of every morning. Am I the only one? Wanna tell me yours?

Hey Nucky,

I stumbled upon your blog looking for the lyrics to a song my wife came home muttering the lyrics to. Turned out to be "Doctor Blind".

But I just read this post, and wanted you to know that I have woken up every morning, for as long as I can remember, with a different song playing in my internal dialogue.

Every morning.

I'm 38. Sometimes they're current songs, like a song from an album I'm listening to (Metallica, Radiohead, who knows...), or sometimes it will be a the melody from a song my mother used to sing to me when I was a kid, or a song I heard when I was a kid or a teenager, but haven't really heard since (Van Halen, James Taylor, Bing Crosby, who knows...)

Anyway, I love it. It's like seeing an old friend, a different old friend, every day of your life. What a surprise.

I enjoyed your post.

Cheers,
Pete
